We are seeking a full-time a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to lead and strengthen EHS programs across our poultry further processing operations.  This role is based at our Gainesville, Georgia facility and will also provide oversight and support for our Carthage, Mississippi plant.

The Senior EHS Specialist will serve as a visible, hands-on safety leader responsible for driving compliance, reducing risk, improving training, supporting regulatory readiness, and helping build a proactive safety culture across fast-paced, labor-intensive manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS compliance, safety culture, risk reduction, and performance improvement across assigned facilities.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve safety programs including lockout/tagout, machine guarding, hazard communication, PPE, powered industrial trucks, confined space, ergonomics, fall protection, contractor safety, and related programs.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and injury prevention initiatives.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, HR, food safety, quality, sanitation, and plant leadership to integrate safety into daily operations.
  • Conduct audits, inspections, observations, and employee engagement activities to identify and reduce risk.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training for hourly employees, supervisors, managers, contractors, and temporary labor.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, training records, regulatory documentation, and other compliance records.
  • Support environmental compliance activities related to wastewater, stormwater, waste management, chemical handling, spill prevention, emergency response, and reporting.
  • Provide regular EHS support, coaching, audits, and training for the Carthage, Mississippi facility.
  • Track and report key EHS metrics, trends, corrective actions, and improvement priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of Environmental Health & Safety and OSHA experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA general industry standards and practical manufacturing safety programs.
  • Experience leading audits, incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action tracking, and compliance activities.
  • Ability to build credibility with hourly employees, supervisors, managers, and senior plant leaders.
  • Strong communication, coaching, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a large, fast-paced, labor-intensive plant environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EHS reporting, training, or safety management systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Carthage, Mississippi.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to hear, speak, read, and comprehend communications in English.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • EHS experience in poultry, meat processing, protein manufacturing, refrigerated food manufacturing, or similar high-volume industrial environments.
  • Multi-site EHS experience.
  • Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration safety, PSM/RMP, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, wastewater, stormwater, or environmental permitting.
  • Professional certification such as ASP, CSP, OHST, CHMM, or similar.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
  • Experience with behavior-based safety, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, or operational excellence systems.
Work Environment
This role is based in a poultry further processing plant and requires regular time on the production floor.  The work environment may include refrigerated, wet, noisy, fast-paced, and production areas.  The role requires walking production floors, climbing stairs, accessing equipment areas, wearing required PPE, and supporting multiple shifts as needed.
